Das Motorrad ist gefunden!

Hallo und Herzlich Willkommen auf meinem Reiseblog SPUR DER FREIHEIT! Zunächst einmal Dankeschön, dass du vorbeischaust.

Nach längerer Suche habe ich heute endlich DIE Partnerin für meine Reise gefunden. Da die Reisekasse nicht unerschöpflich ist, habe ich mich für ein etwas älteres Modell der Honda Africa Twin entschieden. Nun steht sie da und wartet noch auf einige kleinere Umbauten, bevor es losgehen kann. Ich kann mir kaum vorstellen, mein ganzes Gepäck für 2-3 Monate an dem Motorrad zu befestigen.

2 Jahre älter als ich ist sie und hat während knapp 70.000 Kilometern auch schon einiges von der Welt gesehen. Aber gerade das zeichnet die grundsolide Africa Twin aus. Der große Tank wird sich gerade im Süden Chiles und Argentiniens bezahlt machen.

Die ersten Testfahrten zeigten bereits, warum die Africa Twin als Reisemotorrad so beliebt ist. Sie ist bequem wie eine Wohnzimmercouch, bietet ausreichend Schutz vor Wind und Wetter, der bullige Zweizylinder hat genug Kraft bereits in den niedrigen Drehzahlbereichen und es macht einfach Spaß über die Landstraßen zu fegen. Nicht umsonst gewann dieses Motorrad von 1986 bis 1989 viermal in Folge die Rallye Paris - Dakar.

Jetzt werde ich mich an die Umbauten machen, bevor ich mich dann schon wieder für ca. 5 Wochen von der Twin verabschieden muss. Es geht erst nach Hamburg und von da aus dann im Schiffscontainer nach Valparaiso, Chile. Ich freue mich schon auf das Land, welches mein Auslandssemester 2014 zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis machte. After a long time of continuous searching, today I found THE Bike for my trip. Because I don't have infinite amounts of money, I went for an older model of the famous Honda Africa Twin. Now She is sitting here and waiting for a few modifications before i'm ready to go. Its hard to imagine having to fit all my luggage for a two - three months trip on the bike.

She's exactly two years older than I am and has seen a lot of the world during almost 70.000 Kilometers. But thats exactly what makes the solid Africa Twin so great for traveling. The large fuel tank will pay dividends especially in Patagonia.

After spending a few test miles on the bike its clear to see why the Africa Twin is so popular amongst motorcycle travelers around the globe. Its as comfy as my couch, provides enough protection from wind and weather, the large V2 Motor has enough torque even in lower rev areas and it handles so well that flying over country roads here in Germany is tons of fun. This Bike didn't win the Paris - Dakar Rallye four times in a row from 1986 till 1989 for nothing.

Now i'm going to start adding a few bits and pieces here and there before I have to say goodbye to her again for approx. five weeks before I can pick her up in Valparaiso, Chile. I can't wait to return to the country that made my semester abroad 2014 such a unique experience.
